MEDIA AVAILABLE: Jewish Rabbi And Palestinian Man Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro Together For Peace

    For Immediate Release

SUNNYVALE, Calif./EWORLDWIRE/Aug. 4, 2005 --- In preparation for their Mt. Everest ascent in spring 2006 - The Everest Peace Project's Kilimanjaro Climb for Peace Team - which includes members of their Everest team and a few special friends, came together in Tanzania, Africa from all parts of the world to have a Climb for Peace of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

On July 21, 2005 at 8:45 a.m., African time, The Everest Peace Project Kilimanjaro team successfully summited Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. The seven people who made it to the roof of Africa all reached the summit simultaneously, with arms interlocked. Upon reaching the summit the team unfolded The Everest Peace Project banner and the United Nations flag - a symbol of unity and international community.

The Kilimanjaro Climb for Peace team consisted of nine members from five different continents - including Benjamin Tanny, a Jewish Rabbi and Ali Bushnaq, a Palestinian. It made for some interesting discussions along with some cultural learning for everyone. Not only did Tanny eat kosher throughout the whole trip, he also observed the Sabbath - which at times, made things interesting. One of Tanny's nicknames on the trip was "Ben the juggling Rabbi" - for he juggled on the summit of Kilimanjaro. It is not known if it is world's record for high altitude juggling, but certainly no other Rabbi has juggled on the summit of Kilimanjaro before.

The main objective of The Everest Peace Project is to promote a global community of peace, teamwork, and cultural understanding. On the project's educational and informative website: www.EverestPeaceProject.org (which has been viewed by people from over 100 different countries) they list eight ways in which they will promote and help create peace through their effort. One of those ways is through inspiration. Lance Trumbull - the project founder and leader states, "People are influenced and motivated by the stories they read and the images they see. Our peace climbs, especially our Mt. Everest Climb for Peace in 2006 will provide the world with inspirational stories, pictures and videos that portray courage, friendship and teamwork. I think the world could use this right now."
