April 8: Orange County Justice System Likened to Bermuda Triangle - Indigent Pro Per Defendandts Go In and Don't Come Out

Pro Per Rally from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Plaza of the Flags, at the Civic Center in Santa Ana, Calif.

Media Advisory

SANTA ANA, Calif./EWORLDWIRE/April 5, 2010 --- C. J. Ford Jr. of C. J. Ford Private Investigations has been standing up for indigent Pro Per Defendants Right to Choose since March of 2009. The investigation that he had began back in March of 2009, peaked when the story "Bad Detective" was posted in the Orange County Weekly by investigative reporter Nick Schou.

Now that this "Bad Detective" was exposed, Ford thinks the Orange County Alternate Defense Services and the Judge in C5 are scrambling to find another "Bad Detective" instead of allowing Pro Per defendants to pick their own investigators.

"It's like the Bermuda Triangle, except here in Orange County it is the Pro Per Triangle," says Ford. "The Pro Per defendants go in and they don't come out. Defendants get convicted and you never hear from them again. The top of the triangle is the judge in C5, and the corners are the Alternate Defense Services and the 'Bad Detective'."

Now that the Bad Detective is gone, Ford thinks that every investigator who gets appointed by the judge will be under scrutiny by the Pro Per defendants. "It is not fair for an investigator to go into a situation where he automatically becomes the villain because he is selected by the Judge in C5 or The Alternate Defense Services," states Ford. "The correct process would be to supply the Pro Per defendant with a list of qualified panel investigators and have the Pro Per Defendants interview and select an investigator. If the defendant does not like any investigator on the list, they can interview other licensed private investigators that are not on the list. Then the defendant can have the investigator apply to the panel and qualify for the list."

"The purpose of our rally," adds Ford, "is to get this message out to the Orange County Superior Court judges and Alternate Defense Services.

"Pro Per defendants are not minor children, wards of the court. They are adults and must be given the same rights as other adults under the 6th and 14th amendments. Pro Per defendants as their own attorney, must be able to pick their own investigator and experts to prepare their defense. During this process the court should remain impartial."

Petitions will be signed at the rally that will be sent to the Commission on Judicial Performance, California State Senator Lou Correa, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, and a host of other Assembly personnel, organizations and legislators.

Ford and his staff, lead by Tina Jackson, will be organizing this event, getting petitions signed, and putting on a presentation.

"We aim to send a clear message to Orange County Superior Court and the Alternate Defense Services: the Pro Per Triangle has got to go!"
