A Juried Selection by Bob Mueller, Curator, Salmagundi Club, NYC

NEW YORK/EWORLDWIRE/Nov. 1, 2010 --- Classical Surprises - Guest curator Bob Mueller, curator at the Salmagundi Club, successful artist and designer, prides himself on his classical training and point of view. However, after selecting nearly 60 pieces on the first pass and then eliminating all but 30, when the selection of art for the Barebrush November 2010 N*des-of-the-Month was complete, he remarked, "Some of the works I picked surprised me. I lean toward the academic, but I like the oil that looks like a woodcut, [La naturaleza by Hector Olvera, Etor]. I'm also surprised to see that abstract, Exposed in Chaos [by Penelope Przekop] still there. He also thought Funny by Tony Lee was unusual fun."

For his five Curators Choice nominees, Mr. Mueller picked "A Mom's Tattoo" by Tai Lin to start the month because it has impact. Mueller paid classical homage to Jean Marcellinos "Manou's Brief Return." He selected "Red Hat #4" by Donelli J. DiMaria, mentioning "the painting's nice flow across the canvas." He also selected "Layers of Memory" by Michael Seif, saying. "I've never seen [something like] that! I love it." Finally, in a choice between two buff butts, he struggled for a while, eventually choosing "Bottoms Up" by Terry Hinkle over the more in your face, "I Lean" by Tim Woodhouse. Three popular works will be retired after this calendar, having been in three calendars: "Taking the Rays" by Roger Cummiskey, "Greeting the Day" by Lucinda Luvaas, and "New Hope" by John Luce Lockett.

Each of the artists selected for the calendar receives two (2) complimentary listings. Five artists, indicated by asterisks (*), are nominated for the Curators Choice Awards. Curators' Choice nominees receive 8 additional complimentary listings. The top three artists receive additional prizes.
