U.K. Bribery Act the Subject of Eukleia Training's New White Paper

Specialist training firm offers guidance on effective training to meet new requirements.

For Immediate Release

LONDON, England United Kingdom/EWORLDWIRE/Nov. 15, 2010 --- Eukleia Training, a leading specialist provider offering compliance and regulatory training services, has announced the release of a new white paper to help firms meet the requirements of the U.K. Bribery Act. The paper provides a summary of the new legislation and of the Ministry of Justice's recent consultation paper. It also provides suggestions for a structured approach to training to ensure anti-bribery procedures are implemented and communicated effectively.

The UK Bribery Act was passed in April 2010 and comes into full operation early in 2011. It has implications for all U.K. firms and their related entities wherever they operate around the world. The new legislation has been enacted to bring the U.K. into line with the recommendations of the OECD, and its requirements are stringent and wide-ranging, surpassing those of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FPCA).

A key part of the Bribery Act is the corporate offence of failing to prevent bribery and, in particular, the defence that a firm has put in place adequate procedures to prevent bribery. While guidance has already been published on what constitutes adequate procedures, it is apparent that there is a lack of information and support around the communication and implementation of those procedures.

"The most carefully drafted procedures are of little value if they are not communicated and understood by the workforce," said Eukleia's Commercial Director Simon Cooper. "Every company needs to think about its implementation approach and ensure that a comprehensive communications programme is in place to raise awareness, increase understanding and change behaviours. Tackling bribery and corruption requires a commitment from the very top, and a cultural change that can only be realised by a variety of training interventions with the staff on the front line."

Eukleia's new white paper provides guidance on this topic, including thoughts on training needs analysis, blended learning approaches and subsequent assessment and validation.

In August 2010, Eukleia released an e-learning course that can provide the core of a bribery and corruption training programme. This course is already being used by several leading firms who have worked with Eukleia to adapt it to their own requirements.
